Has anyone taken the nicholas lodge classes and stayed at a hotel? Which one did you stay at? He recommends a couple, with very different prices (One is walking distance, the other you take a shuttle)

What did you do with your evenings?

I did in 2001 and I don't recall the name of the motel but it is right across the street and within walking distance. Call his shop or email them and ask the name of the motel. They have a little breakfast room where you can buy breakfast, but not meals, so you will have to eat out or call the different restaurants that deliver to the motel. And here is something that will make you laugh. Atlanta, Georgia, home of Coca Cola, my drink of choice, and this motel only carries Pepsi! What's with that???

Anyway Nic and Scott have a continental breakfast at the shop if you get there early, juice, coffee, muffins type thing and Scott cooks a delicious lunch each day for the students and makes fresh cookies. Included in the price of the class.

What did I do with my evenings? I was so exhausted from the pace of the class I went to bed early, but you will also meet other students there who will have their own car or have rented one and we all went out for dinner one evening.

i was told that:

Courtyard Atlanta Norcross/I-856235 McDonough Drive
Norcross, GA 30093
USA
1-770-242-7172
Fax: 1-770-840-8768

is very close, and if you call them there is a B&B they recommend as well.

They also recommend the Drury hotel, which is half the price of the hotel across the street, and has a shuttle right to ISAC. Has anyone stayed there?

I have stayed at the Drury Inn twice - very pleasant. Basic but clean rooms, very close but not walking distance. They do offer a shuttle to the school. "Free" drinks and munchies in the evening, fairly nice hot breakfast buffet included, but most of all, I feel completely safe there alone. Rates are more reasonable than the Courtyard, which is just across the street from ISAC. I would recommend it to anyone that does not require a four or five star facility thumbs_up.gif .

I have heard this Nicholas Lodge class mentioned so much, is this only offered in the state of Alabama?

FaithsPlace... Nicholas Lodge has a school/store in Georgia (outside of Atlanta).

Loriesmom are you renting a car? If so, I live in the area and give you other hotel names as well as good places to eat at. Nicholas and Scott both are great with suggesting places to eat, etc. and both times I took classes it was easy to become friends with some of the other ladies and go out for dinner. But like Shirley said, the class is pretty intensive so you turn in pretty early!

I figured it would be pretty exhausting...and I plan on taking full advantage of it!! I can't wait! (the class is in July but making all my RSVPs now)

No, I am flying in and then staying at the hotel..no car.

Not to sound dumb but, I live in Illinois, pretty far from GA, would it be worth it for me to go to this class? I am still pretty new to all of this and would love to learn more.

Thanks!!

I, too, stayed at the Drury Inn. Clean and comfortable, convenient but limited places to eat for dinner. There is a Cajun restaurant next door that is really good, and on the other side, an Indian restuarant that I would highly recommend (it's in a little mall next door).

Advantages of staying at the Drury Inn - Shuttle to and from the school, free breakfast (I highly recommend the Belgian Waffles), Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. This means you can get your Cake Central fix while you're there at no extra charge!

They have a computer and printer in the lobby as well, if you don't have a laptop. They also offer three free cocktails in the evenings, along with sodas and snacks, during each night of your stay. There is a discount for students attending the school. Make sure to ask for the 'sugar rate' when you call to make your reservation.

I'd rethink the car thing - norcross isn't exactly right next to the airport. it looks to be about 30 miles. by the time you get a taxi each way, you've almost paid for the cost of a car for the weekend.
