Just curious about advice on how to price a cake like this (it's in my photo album). The bottom tier was 14" and top 10". Both double layered. I decorate mostly for experience and a little pocket money. We are stationed overseas, so American style cakes are hard to come by. Except the commissary which arrive decorated and frozen and have absolutely no taste. Believe me, I know this cake is not perfect or even close to professional, but I think I may be asked to do one about this size next month and want to be able to have a price in mind. Sorry i couldn't get the picture on this post - couldn't figure it out!!! Thanks!!

I don't know what the going rate for cakes in germany are but I would get around $200.00 -$250.00 for that beautiful cake here. According to Earlenes chart a 14" will feed 65 and a 10" will feed 30.

If you are referring the one with the yellow roses on top that is a beautiful cake. I would not sell it for less than $200.00.

My stacked cakes start at $2.50 per serving and I add an additonal .25 per serving for Premium cake flavor and filling plus extra for the brush embroidery so it would be $$3.25 per serving. This would be about 91 servings for your cake (I use party size servings not wedding cake sizes)

I'm next door to you in The Netherlands, where the cost of living is a bit higher than in Germany, and I would charge 210 euros for that cake, so I should imagine that you could charge a similar price, maybe a little less (175 - 200 euros). Although I do this as a business, I don't see why your time should be worth any less thumbs_up.gif !

That cake is lovely! The brushed embroidery is very pretty and I love the ruffled border! You definitely have to charge per serving and DON'T undercharge!

I'm in The Hague (been here for 5 1/2 years now) - where I'm serving the expat community here with cakes like they get at home (because Dutch cakes leave a lot to be desired!)!

It is a lovely cake. But if you are selling to Military families I don't know that they could afford to pay $200.00 on their salary. I think you would have to price it on what cakes go for off base at local bakeries and then maybe give a discount to military?

Affordability varies from person to person, but I don't know any, regardless of rank, who are WILLING to pay a lot for a cake. And figuring out what is fair to myself and fair to the customer is pretty tricky. I've calculated my base costs, but where I really skimp is on time. But, I think that everyone's suggestion of about $200 seems fair - I think I spent about 8 hours altogether on this cake.

Bonjovibabe - yes, they definitely do! The German cakes are not much better. I'm not much of a fan of marzipan and for me, I like desserts sweet and rich.

Hold on! Your on a base with military. THEY ARE CHEAP!!!! I know this because my husband is military. They would rather go to the commisary and get the nastiest cake than pay an extra 10-20 dollars more for an excellent cake.
