I am new to all this decorating. I love it and want to take classes soon. I just can't right now because I stay home with the kids. So right now it is more of trial and error and practice. I am enjoying it alot. Fondant is the one thing that I have yet to journey into. But today a good friend asked me to make her daughter's first communion cake with the Wilton cross pan. She likes the fondant. I have until April to figure it out. LOL! I might need that time. So I was wondering what kind of cake best goes with it. Regular or something more sturdy like pound cake? I am going to make fondant soon and just practice and get the hang of it. Wish me luck!

Hi there,

Any type of cake is fine under fondant. Just make sure you ice it first in a layer of buttercream so the fondant has something to stick to. Good luck! icon_smile.gif

icon_smile.gif Pratically any cake as long as it can support all your decoration..Probably Pound cake would be best esp. if you will be carving it..
I use mostly regular cake, like White Cake, Fudge (DH), but I add instant pudding mix and it makes the cake sturdy but moist.. If you want to see my cakes, I cover my cakes with Fondant as well as decoration.. icon_smile.gif
