Here's a new tip for wedding cake setup that I should've known before this. 
Take the turntable WITH you.
I did this tonight and was SO glad I did. I had to pipe borders on a 3-tier wedding cake on a silver plateau, and it was SO easy to have that little low turntable under the cake, because the table was against a wall. I finished it and just wiggled the turntable out from under the decorated finished cake. Simple Simon!

Awesome! I'm delivering my first tiered cake this week and will probably take every tool I own, just in case, but I wouldn't have thought of the turntable!
And I love the "rule" in your signature!
