Lady calls me yesterday to get cake prices. I say, what type of cake, sheet cakes, wedding? Well, like a wedding cake but not for a wedding, I want 3 cakes stacked on top of each other, how much? Well, how many people or how big of cakes do you want? Only 25 servings maximum, and after much grief we determine she wants 3-2 layer cakes stacked, and thinks it will look funny if the smallest one is less than 6", and she doesn't want dummy cakes, wants it all cake. I advise the fewest servings I can do in 3 tiers stacked and cost, she says, wow, that's a lot...well, it's a lot of cake! Especially for 25 people! I suggested for 25 servings we could do single layers stacked but she didn't like that either. Well, how much is just a 12" round 2 layer cake she asks? I tell her, and how many servings, and explain serving size...wow, that's still a lot! And again, I say, it's still a lot of cake! Well, she guesses she'll wait on the other lady she called to get prices from to call her back then she'll let me know...

Aaaaarrrrgh! People just kill me! She never did say what the cake was for, but I am curious! She just had a picture in her mind of what she wanted, and I totally understand that, but, when she only wants cake for 25 people and said a wedding size serving is fine, what can I do?! She's one of those people I won't be bothered if she doesn't call me back, you know what I mean?! Anywho...thanks for letting me vent!

Sounds to me like she had an idea in mind but didn't really "get" the logistics of it all.

I think you idea of single layers, stacked would have worked fine. You could have torted and filled them if she needed extra height. Just a thought.

I think that a lot of people have no concept as to the amount of time and work that goes in to making a cake. I must admit that before I started doing it myself I didn't have a clue. Now I have the utmost respect for cake decorators!!

Your venting is understood! Sorry you had to experience a person like that. Not that she was mean and nasty, but she obviously didn't have a clue what cake decorating is all about

Wow--I don't think this woman really knows what she wants. I mean, if a standard wedding cake is 3 tiers, what on earth was this woman surprised for to find it would serve more than 25? I'm thinking you might be better off if she doesn't call back. Yikes!

[quote="Lazy_Susan"]I think that a lot of people have no concept as to the amount of time and work that goes in to making a cake.

I had this lady call me up for a baby shower cake wants it to look WOW but not cheap I tell her a layout I have, then within two weeks she calls to tell me that she changed her mind. AFTER I bought the stuff I just laugh and said thanks now I'm stock up for my next order. Yeah some people dont realize it . But they don't complaint to the local bakery ????
