I'm pretty new here. I have been cake decorating for a while and love it but I want to learn more techniques. I have learned so much from you guys already but was wondering if any of you had any good cake decorating book recommendations? As many as I can get would be great. Thanks!

Well, a good suggestion to me was to go to the library and check out books before I bought them. And if your library doesn't have them, you can request them! Its a fantastic way to see if ya really want them or not. I checked out Colette Peters, Cakes to Dream On...didn't buy it. I hear there are some good techniques in Toba Garretts....like how to 'brush embroidery'.
I have some ancient Wilton books and they have been the most helpful.

I do like Toba Garrets books her first one anyone don't have the newest. If you are like me our small town doesn't have any good books on cake decorating.

I bought every Wilton Yearbook I could get my hands on. Issues of Mailbox News and American Cake Decorating are two other options for you. Getting a subscription can be a pain, though. Check around to see if you can buy them off the newstand to see if you like them. ACD seems more "high brow", with more fondant.

Toba Garretts new book Professional Cake Decorating is awesome. It has 20 lessons from very basic skills to very advanced skills. I got it for Xmas and love it.

I agree Toba Garretts book "Professional Decorating" is awsome. It's very pricey ($60) and the best deal I found on it is at www.cooking.com for $35. The "Essential guide to cake decorating" is another good one. I picked it up at Borders. I think it's only sold there. "Fabulous Cake Decorating" is another and for some awsome recipes I LOVE "The Cake Bible".

Ooohhhh, slippery slope to addiction let me warn you! I now have EVERY Wilton yearbook since 1980, their fondant and tiered books, the 3 latest Wilton wedding books, every book that Debbie Brown has published, all of Lindy Smith's, Collette Peters' and Toba Garrett's books, plus 13 other cake decorating books. Then I have 19 baking recipe books - and today I just ordered 8 more cake decorating books icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif ! I also have Debbie Brown's, Lindy Smith's, Peggy Porschen's and Eliza Strauss' new books pre-ordered. You can NEVER have too many cake related books - well I can't any way (with my current tally of 80 plus all those year books). Oh, I also subscribe to 'Wedding Cakes - A Design Source' and I have 6 of those icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif !

It's called the Cake Mix Doctor. I have heard great reviews, and all the books on Amazon right now are on sale:

Thank you guys so much!! I really appreciate you all taking the time to answer for me. I am addicted to buying cake magazines to haha but my husband on the other hand doesn't understand so I wanted to make sure that I purchased some great ones rather then spend money on things that wouldn't help me any. Thanks so much again!
