My daughter, a petite strawberry blonde, is marrying a tall Korean young man. ONLY reason I have a concern is that we went to a bridal show today, and she decided on the type of cake she wants, the style etc... and then she told me she definitely wanted the bride/groom cake topper... but the bride had to be strawberry blonde, and the groom asian.... now what do I do? Can you buy mix and match couples? I don't want to have to make them... I'm afraid they'd be too cartoonish for the elegant cake she wants.... Help??????icon_cry.gif Am I just out of the loop on this or am I living too sheltered a life? Any help would be most appreciated.

There is an amazing artist in Scotland who creates cake toppers that are personalized and cartoon-like. SO cute:

working off of previous post:

do you know someone talented in poly/plastic clay work?? Maybe they could make you custom toppers based on photos of bride and groom?

and here's a link to another artist (this one in USA) who makes custom toppers:
http://www.thumbprintkids.com/

and another:

http://www.joshclay.com/caketopper-gallery.html

tho' i have to admit, the two artist's charge big $$$.

a friend who is talented might be willing to do it as his/her wedding gift to the couple.

)and we thought we were expensive as cake makers!?!?!?!?!?

her speciality is working from photos and doing very life-like likeness of the couple and any speical extras....so yep, $2k+

that's why I suggested a friend to do it

(me thinks I watch carol duval a wee bit too much...tho' have gotten lots of ideas from the polymer clay people on things to do w/ fondant....the techniques are the same, but we can eat ours! icon_rolleyes.gif )

Thank you all for the quick responses! I too found some sites on the web with cake toppers where you can choose separate brides / grooms for cake toppers and can also choose hair color....and they're positioned so that they can embrace as they dance... quite nice... they range from $16 to $25 each from what I've seen... I think I can cover that! thumbs_up.gif The only customization I might have to do is to add a little mustache and goatee to the groom with a sharpee! icon_cool.gif I guess I need to get out more!!! The customized figures sound great, but I can think of a few other things I could spend $2K on right now... of course, if I win the lottery... uh huh
Thanks again!
OH... and based on the prices of cakes we saw today... from $3.75 to $6.00 per slice, for buttercreme no less, I think I'll be making the cake for my daughter!! icon_smile.gif
