I am making a whimsical cake and I wanted to decorate it using wires that are curled on one end with a ball of gumpaste or fondant that is stuck on the same end. (like Duff from Ace of Cakes uses) Does any know what kind of wire is used and are the balls stuck on the wire with royal icing?
Thanks, Lora.....
When I saw them on his show his friend Geoff was spinning them around in his fingers and they didn't have a ball on them so I am assuming they make one and glue it one..I'm not sure where you can get them though..hopefully someone else will know and respond!!

In my photos my practice whimsical cake (yeah, I know I need a LOT OF PRACTICE!!), I used white 18 gauge florist wire (it was covered). I just hooked the wire on one end and put the balls on by starting at the opposite end and running them up the wire until the hook was imbedded. Like you do the centers of gumpaste flowers. Does that make sense? Sorry, I didn't explain that very well, did I? I'm sure someone else probably has a better explanation!
Happy Baking!

I use florist wire, make a loop in the end, cover it with a small piece of fondant or gum paste, let it dry then dip it in vodka and put the decoration on it, such as a ball or flower. This seems to stop the thing from falling off the end.
