One of my husbands coworkers is getting married in October, and they are having a Gone with the Wind themed wedding. They want a cake to go with their theme. I have never seen the movie. I know and I call my self a southern girl. Do you all have any suggestions as to where I might get some ideas for the cake?

For ideas, just watch the dvd--you might can get it at your local library or borrow it from a friend & I know you can rent it!

I know Hallmark carries the Scarlett ornaments & maybe one with both Scarlett & Rhett(?). Might could put one or a few on the cake??? Cake topper???

Could the "grand staircase" be incorporated into the cake??? (or is that a bad omen at a wedding? I guess that depends on what speaks to them in the movie!!!)

Tara cake? Twelve Oaks? Cotton???

Sorry, don't have many ideas. icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

this site has lots of pics from the movie.

something might inspire you.

some random thoughts.

cake made to look like Tara (the plantation house)

cake w/ Rhett and Scarlett look alikes....esp. if you do them on the grand staircase in the house.

(and if the couple have an off-beat sense of humor -- could do one for the bridal shower of Bob Mackie's Carol Burnett's take-off on the "curtain" dress (for the "Went with the Wind" episode. -- several shots of dress there)

Look on gallery 2 of the web site suggested and look at the silohuette of Rhett and Scarlett against the background of the burning of Atlanta.... awesome!!!! That would be a nice grooms cake.

Ok--I have been thinking...Can you do edible imaging? A film canister with the film spilling out would be cute. Pictures of the movie on the film strip.

or

A white 3 teir cake with choc. silouettes could be amazing.

Still thinking..

I love that movie and would really like to see and someday make a cake of the Tara Plantation.

Being that it's a wedding, I would try and go with something from the "glory" days in the beginning of the movie. Where life is serene and happy.

Something with the beautiful trees--the pretty flowers, etc. I'll have to think of this one.

There is a lovely staircase at 12 Oaks--that is shown in the beginnin of the movie. There are also a couple of weddings in the movie that you could try and see what those cakes look like. If I have time--I'll try and yank out my dvd's and see if there is any other inspiration.

The idea with the grand staircase is great, too. The stairs, however, are pretty dark--both in color and in what happens on them. Something to think about.
