I think I'm going to jump on Kohl's sale. I just checked the website and here are some of the mixers (and the sale prices they're showing as right now). I think they're also another 10% off during their "Power Hours".

Hamilton Beach Eclectrics (400 watt) $170
KA Artisan 5-qt (325 watt) $280
KA Heavy Duty Plus (325 watt) $290
KA Professional 5 Plus (450 watt) $320 (I don't think this one has a splatter shield, though)
KA Professional 600 (575 watt) $400

Are any of them THAT much better than the others? Can you get better prices elsewhere?

I have the KA Pro 600, and I love it! I honestly don't know how I ever made anything at all in the kitchen without it. I do small things in it, as well as really larege. I got mine at Williams and Sonoma, and it was $399 regular price....I think with tax I paid $425.

Hi! I have a KA Artisan 5-qt. It has been the BEST gift my husand has ever given me. I think that if you buy a KA you won´t regret it. Now, the model depends on the amount of work you have. I can´t help you with the prices because I don´t live in the US.

Check www.qvc.com They have the:

KA Professional 5 Plus (450 watt) for $272
KitchenAid Professional 600 6qt 575 Watt Stand Mixer for $384
KitchenAid Artisan 5 qt. 325 Watt Stand Mixer for $285

They also have a rebate offer too. I think it is for at least $20 more off.

I think I saw the Hamilton Beach on there too. Just search for mixer. That is where I got mine from and I love it.

Also...why is the KA Pro 5 the only one with a pouring shield?!

i have a pouring shield for my KA 600 Pro...

rarely -- almost never use it....

just gets in the way and doesn't really help all "that" much.

best use is as a "splatter" shield -- but then that's usually my own fault (too high too fast) -- even then if doing a big batch just in the way -- gotta take it off to scrape sides of bowl

easier --> damp towel draped over bowl to hold in splatters and sugar poof.

I have the KA 600 pro, I love it. I got mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond for 399 plus tax, 423.00... Plus I also get a 30.00 rebate and free subscriptions to food and wine magazine and travel and leisure i believe is the other one. I really like my KA. I use it for anything and everything in the kitchen.

Same here, but my cashier told me that they took linens n things coupons so I bought the coupon back with my receipt and they gave me 20% back. If you have any coupons from linens n things use it on that mixer.

Can't wait to get my subscriptions icon_biggrin.gif

I was just checking out the prices again. With the rebates, the extra 10% off for their "Power Hours" and *another* 10% off for opening a credit card (if they'll let you take that too) these are the prices:

Artisan $207
Hamilton Beach $138
Pro 5 $239
Pro 600 $294

Now....I'm just trying to decide if I go for the "mack daddy" that may be too big, and only comes in a couple colors or go for the smaller one in lots of colors..... Decisions, decisions! icon_smile.gif

If you can afford it, I'd go for the pro (and if you of course have the space for it). I have the artisan 5 qrt and I LOVE it, and now dreaming of the day I can get a pro (they're around $700 canadian). I'm with Doug in that I rarely use the pour guard/splatter shield, its awkward and kinda gets in the way so I can't be bothered, just turning the mixer on low and then turning it on high when everything is mixed works just as well.

Go for the LARGER!!! I loved my 5 qt but wanted that little extra in the 6 qt. Glad I got it and I know you will be happier with the larger KA too.
Good luck and have lots of fun with it.

I you have the extra money buy the biggest you can get! If you decide to go with one without the shield you can get one on ebay cheaper than you can buy it from KA! The store name on ebay is "buyitnow" if you can't find it PM me and I will get the link for you!

I don't use the ''shield'' either, too cumbersome and just a real pain to use.

I have both the artisan and the pro - Love them both use them both a lot! But I was really amazed how much more the Pro can hold! I would get the biggest you can get! oh yeah and I never use the shield. The Pro has a nice "No Poof" feature - the mixer starts out slow and works up to speed so there is "No Poof" of flour or sugar. icon_smile.gif

I have the KA Pro 5 Plus and absolutely love it!
My suggestion is to purchase the most powerful of them you possibly can.
Like mine is a 450 Watt and the pro 600 is 575 Watt which they did not have when I purchased my Pro 5 Plus.

So, if I were buying today I would buy the KA Pro 600 6 QT 575 Watt.

Let us know!! I am VERY excited for you getting a new KA!!!

I recently had to make the same decision & decided to get the 600.

I figured it was way cheaper to get the largest than to outgrow a smaller version a year from now & have to buy the big boy later!

BTW - I love it!

I toldally agree. I bought the KA 600 less than a year ago, and I am already maxing out all my buttercream batches with it. I'm glad I got the bigger one. It makes double batches easy. Spend the money now to save time and money later. The only down side to the KA 600 is that it doesn't fit under my cabinet when on my counter. So it has it's own special spot in on my work table.
