Both cakes are very pretty! You did a nice job replicating. $25 isnt too bad. I would have charged $30 probably.

I think yours looks just as good, if not better. So do you just do cakes out of your home? How long have you been doing it? I just sold my first 2 cakes this past month. They were extremely simple it was more for the quality vs design. I'm curious what other people charge. I know a lot of professionals charge per slice. I am doing my first tiered cake for someone who wants to pay me for it. It will be a 2 tiered cake (6&8 or 8&10 round) with a Dora theme. I have no idea what to charge. I couldn't believe it but a dental office paid me $35 for a 9x13 choc cake with strawberry cream filling and whipped cream frosting. I decorated with melted choc lattice, and had choc lettering. So was thinking of charging $35-$50. That is a large range. I just want other people opinions.

I charge $28.50 for cake this size. It seems much cheaper in people's heads than charging them $30. They only seem to rememeber that it is under $30.

It is a great looking cake. Congrats.

I like your cake better. Better colors. Better spacing. the only thing I like better about the teacher's cake is the shell border. You did a fantastic job. I remember seeing this cake in the gallery and commented on it earlier today.

I use the same trick, OOPS! I mean IDEA!! It's kinda weird isn't it? But, you know what? My mind works the SAME WAY!! I am charging $38.50 for a sheet cake I am doing....simply because I think $40.00 will freak the lady and I'll get $1.50 worth of advertising from this cake!

Maybe I am a little sensitive, but I think everyone ought to be careful about saying who's cake is "better" just at risk of hurting the other's feeling. The other cake was done by a member here. Both cakes are beautiful.

I agree! Neither person asked for criticism on their cake, especially the person of the other cake. I know if I were the person that the other person was inspired by and people were saying that the other cake was "better" than mine my feelings would be very hurt.
