Hi everyone, not even sure I want to do this, I hade a friend ask me to do a gothic theme cake for her daughter. Anyone have any ideas for something to do so I can see if I even want to say yes I will do the cake for you. Thanks for looking at this and any ideas.

How about a castle cake? Then you could make it look gothic, like the Adams family house. Or how about a Barbie cake that looks like Morticia or some other gothic-looking girl?

Well, I typed in goth in google images, and it came back with a goth cartoon girl. You could always do a BCT of her on a black cake. It's cute and not too much.

Other ideas: Lips cake with black fondant (they were lots of black lipstick). Or you could just do a plain black fondant cake with spiders or something creeepy/gothy.

Wait. How old is the daughter? i am confused here. her daughter is a goth and so she wants a gothic cake or does the daughter just appreciate gothic architecture and music? There are lots of ways you can go with a "gothic" theme.

PS---also just thought: anything with a vampire. You could also ask her daughter's favorite goth band and do a buttercream transfer or edible image done.
This sounds like a fun cake to do: wish I could do it!!

Yeah, same question - like gothic building or gothic lots of black and kind of vampire-ish?

I was asked to do a Gothic wedding cake once and I found this beauty when I did a Google.

We actually ended up copying her black/ivory/burgundy invitation instead, so that was easier. I'd imagined a very "Sleepy Hollow", Tim Burton-inspired cake...which I was game for!

Can you tell I'm itchin' to do a cake like this??
I saw this on google images too: goth temporary tatoos. http://www.temptatts4u.com/giant9.htm

Why not a BCT on a black cake?

If it is gothic architecture, there are so many cool things you could do with that too!

I was asked to make a goth cake for a girl who was really into The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I made a sheet cake and carved it into a coffin shape, and did a color flow piece of Jack Skelington that I drew out. It turned out really cute and she loved it. Maybe this will help! icon_lol.gif

Goth is very trendy right now with the teens and tweens. Instead of just wearing all black, a lot of kids just use a little goth theme for a change of pace. Trendy goth is Nightmare before Christmas, non- cutesy fairy/pixies, cutesy goth like Emily the Strange.

Maybe watch a "Batman" movie..then maybe you'll get ideas, since the whole movie takes place in a gothic city.. icon_smile.gif

Like the other posters have said, there are many different interpretations of goth. Some is only black, some is dark/blood red, jewel tones, dark purple, lacey detailing and flowy material, silver, wrought iron etc. It can be punk, pretty, hardcore, kinda on the morid side etc. Do you know what the mom/daughter had in mind? If its okay to ask (if i'm overstepping you dont have to!) was wondering why you sound a little reluctant to do the cake.

I have had many goth friends, went through a goth stage as a teen(yeah, my mother took a fit for months because I only wore black icon_rolleyes.gif ), a lot of goth motifs can be fun or beautiful. (man now I wish I could do a cake like this!). Its cool that the mom is okay with it, most people figure goth must mean they're into satan or some other evil things, lol.

Here is a couple things I found,

What about black cornelli lace on a deep red bc or fondant background, maybe with some deep purple roses cascading down the side.

Have you tried doing a search in the Halloween section of the photo gallery for some inspiration? Another movie full of goth detailing is The Crow.
