I just looked up the set after reading this forum (I have DVR and fast forward through commercials. Saves me headaches from listening to my kids ask for more and more toys that they don't need and forget after the commercial is off anyway). I primarily make cakes for my kids, my husband's work, and friends, but I've been doing it for about 5 years (although I'd still consider myself a novice).

I think I have some double knit polyester that are those same colors back in a bag of sewing scraps. The stencils would be cool, but honestly I already have a lot of them (I'm horrible at writing on cakes without help - any pointers on that would be greatly appreciated.) Anyway, I feel sorry for the person that buys this thinking she can make her daughters sweet 16, or worse yet wedding cake, because "now you can have professional looking cakes."

LOL. Thanks for sharing this Melv, now that's funny. How goofy . . . the "nozzle attachment"?? icon_lol.gif Seems completely unpractical and unprofessional thereof.

i agree with ya'll about the color combinations on the cakes. they were ugly. but i honestly thought that they were using those combinations to help show off the techniques easier; so they'd stand out for you (mainly a novice) to comprehend. but i certainly could be wrong there. lol

i do have this product (haven't used it yet). it looks like everything is usable except the odd looking bags. maybe this is something more for the kiddos.

Yes, I must confess that I bought this contraption. I actually bought it thinking that I wouldn't have to refill my bags with icing as many times with the bigger holder. Plus I liked the big grass tip option. Anyway, I haven't used it yet. But I'll let you know how it works out, especially with the "multidirectional" feature. I have to agree that the cake presentations were a bit bright and kind of wondered what they were thinking too. They would've sold even more if they had done more pastel, solid color presentations. By the way, what is LTD?

it looks like wilton and betty crocker put their heads together on this one. Horrid colour combos and designs (circa wilton yearbook 1975ish) and the rose looks too soft. Especially if (as i have gathered) it is a rose on a stick. I know from experience that you need stiffer icing for those types than on the nail head.

You know, I never thought of them using those colors to make it easier to see. That's almost funnier though! "Hey, it's tacky as hell, but they can see the details!" Hahahah! Thanks for thinking of that possibility though. I wouldn't be surprised. I have to admit, I am shocked by how many of you have it! Not that there is anything wrong with it, I just thought it was a new commercial.

My mom just called me yesterday about this set. She wants me to order it for her. She wants all the stencils, letter press set, and cake combs. All that in this kit is cheaper than buying Wilton's (which I own). So I may order this for Mom. She won't use that icing whatchamacallit. She has regular decorating bags.

LTD is a mail order catalog company. Usually businesses can get catalogs because LTD expects them to order more stuff than an individual.

abc distributing and LTD are the same company and they make it seem like you have to own a business to order. Not true! You can go to abcdistributing.com and look at their stuff or get a catalog sent. They have 2 cake decorating books right now that I think many on this site would be interested in!!
