Is Something Wrong With My Oven???

HELP!!!
The other night I baked a bunch of cupcakes for an order I have this weekend and the first 2 pans did really well. Then I was in the other room and noticed that I heard a little pop and seemed like the lights flickered, but the lights didn't flicker, just the oven. So, I rushed right in there and thought something had happened, but when I looked everthing seemed to be okay. Well, ever since then it seems like something is not right. The rest of the cupcakes just didn't bake right in my opinion and then last night I baked two 6" round cakes and the tops burnt before the rest of the cake baked.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Anyone know what might have happened?
TIA!
I think the bottom coil might have burnt out. My MIL had the EXACT same thing happen (with the pop thing) and the bottom coil thing had fried.

It's electric. Well, you know, after it happened I noticed that the coil at the bottom had one spot where it was extremely red but the rest wasn't....weird! Can you replace just that part do you know or is it worth just getting a new one? Thanks!
My MIL had the coil replace. I think this is the second time it has happened to her. And the way you describe it I am pretty sure that is the problem. She had one spot that looked really red. Actually she said it had started on fire. (DH and I were visiting and I was in the shower at the time) So I hope that this helps you.

Thank you very much for your help! Sounds like that's the problem.
