Do any of you guys have the wilton three tired stand ( the one with a styrofoam base?) My husband gave me this for Christmas. I used this past weekend on the cake below and it really was unsteady. The cake leaned on it and I was scared if someone bumped the table it might come down. Anyone else had a problem with this stand?

FABULOUS JOB!!! I have seen the stand, but havent had a need for it yet. Thank you for posting that about the stability though, I dont think I would want to worry either about the cake falling.

BTW the cake is wonderful. My daughter is also into the Princess' so I probably will have a castle to make in my future too.

How did you make the columns.? It looks like sugar cones on top of ice cream cake cones on top of what.... I like the candy rocks at the bottom too.

I used paper towel rolls covered in MMF. I then stuck an ice cream cone with the top half of it covered in MMF into the paper towel roll and then added a sugar cone that was painted with luster dust on it.

I had the same problem! I used the stand for my sons western themed birthday cake and I was really worried about it crashing down! I have a picture of the cake in my photos and you can tell that the stand is leaning. I haven't used the stand since then.

Thank you abbey for the info. I really like the way it looks. Need to add that to my memory for the future.

I'd contact Wilton about it. It could be that there is a problem with the stand you have. They may be able to tell you how to make it more stable or may even offer to replace it.

Great advice--I mean, it's meant to support cakes, so if you're having a problem, maybe it is defective somehow. Cute stand--let us know how it works out. Great cake too! Looks like a fun one to make!

I bought one like it from a cake supply store (not a Wilton brand stand) about 3 yrs ago, and I have the same problem with stability issues. I now use it for cupcakes and appetizers or mini sweets.

Also have the individual acrylic stands, and sometimes have to be careful of the table thaey are placed on. If it is the plastic kind of tables and not wood, the stands will lean. (On a rectangular table) I have had to place them close to the leg end for stability.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I will try contacting Wilton and see what happens. I really love the layout of the stand and if mine is defective I would like to know how to fix it. I'll let you know what I hear back from them.

Let us know what they say I just bought one and if it is a issue with tilting than I may just return mine and get something else.

Uh oh I just bought one of those BEFORE I read this thread!!!! I hope it is somewhat sturdy. I was surprised that the base is only styrofoam, though...I didn't notice that when I bought it.

Keep us posted!

Man, I just bought one too at Michaels with a 50% coupon! I too was surprised to find it was styro. I many just take it back.

Yeah I used a coupon too...it was only $15 after the coupon so I will probably just keep it....it will look nice, and the big bottom one seems like it will be sturdy enough. The styro plates they gave me, the larger one is slightly bowed but the weight of the cake should keep it down.

I will say I am disappointed in Wilton for this, it is very cheaply made... but $15 isn't a whole lot and I will be able to use it a few times I am sure.

Well, mine ended up costing $12.00! I thought I would keep it and try to find one of my friends who does woodworking, to make a sturdier one out of wood or plexiglass, using it as a model.

That's a good idea! Hmmm now who do I know...

It seems like this one will only have so many uses before the styrofoam gets beat up and the pillars don't even fit tightly in there anymore.

I can't even believe this was from Wilton...looks more like its from the "Valu-Cake Company" or something! icon_confused.gif

Oh well. icon_smile.gif I'm sure if I'm careful I can get a couple of good uses out of it. And that is a GREAT idea to have someone copy the design out of wood! And maybe have pillars that screw in on the bottom and also bases that screw in on the top, then if you set the plates on top that would be very sturdy. Only would it look good painted?

Sure it would look good painted. I would do it in a white latex, not flat. It would be shiny & you could wipe it off well.

I think I found someone to build me a stand! I gave my cheap stand to his daughter tonight. She used to really be into cake decorating and has gotten more out of it, but says he used to build her cake stands quite often. Cool!!!!!!
