UNBELIEVABLE... THE CAKE MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son just called me and told me that the cake made it and in one piece! The only damage done was to the bow that I had to ship in a seperate box. The bottom of it got a little broken but he said it wasn't noticeable. 3000 miles and only a cracked bow. Washington to Georgia and only a cracked bow!! Woo Hoo!! I am so happy that it made it there. They said it smelled so good that they wanted to eat it now instead of waiting. Now I am very encouraged to send my daughter a cake!!!
I am just sooooooo happy! They are going to take a picture of it and send it to me so I can post it here for everyone to see.
Thank you to all my CC friends for believing in me.

cool, I'm so happy for you as this opens new doors for you.
I'm going to have to re read your other thread as to how you sent it..lol
YAY FOR YOU!!!!!! I am so happy for you. My husband and I got married in Vegas and my mom sent a cake with me on the plane. It was one 8 inch layer and it go mashed all up. I still haven't figured out how. Maybe she should have mailed it. Anyway, I am so happy for you and your son. YAY!!!!!!
That is amazing!!! Congrats on everything, both the cake and the new DIL, that is wonderful!!
I had my doubts and would have have lost half my hair sending a cake like that, but i am so happy for you! After sending a cake to your daughter how about sending one to me? lol

Yay!!!!!! Good for you. I'm glad, it's just too bad you weren't there with it.
Joining you in the happy dance!!!!
That's a beautiful cake! Now, you're going to have to give us all the details on how you packaged it. This subject has come up before, and I don't know that we've ever gotten a report from someone who was successful!
I'd also like to know how you did the border. Was that one long piece, or bunches of smaller ones. Very nice design!
Yeeey, so happy for you!!!
Just a question, how did you send it?? The USPS?
Congrats and can´t wait to see pics!!!!
Yeah... I just took it around the corner to my local post office. It was way cheaper than UPS or Fedex. I think the key to the cakes success was that it was protected by the fondant and I Was able to stabilize it so well with the bubble wrap. I am just so happy that a piece of me could be at the wedding. I could just cry!!! He knows I love him. I can feel it.

The border was one long piece of rolled fondant. After gluing it to the cake with water, I went around it with a fork and then used a dowel to push it in. I knew I couldn't use BC but it had to have a border.
Wow! Congratulations! I'm glad it made it! How much did it cost to ship it, if you don't mind me asking?
The cake was $57.00 to ship and the bow was $18.80 (it wouldn't fit in the same box as the cake). Then with the extra bubble wrap that I had to purchase the grand total to ship the cake "Next Day Air" was $90.00.
You have got to be kidding!? You shipped that!? Amazing!
How on earth?....Did you tell them to keep it upright or something?
I am thrilled for you (and your son) and astonished...!
I have people in the south who are always haranguing me to ship them a cake; this means I could actually attempt it.
I didn't even break down the cake to ship it either. I kept it just as you see it in the picture (already assembled). I think that may have also helped stabilize itbecause the posts of the balls go all the way through the bottom tier and the top tier connects into the balls. However, I did have each tier wrapped individually with Saran Wrap. And then tucked in as much bubble wrap as I could until the cake no longer could move.
I forgot to mention that the bottom of the box was the same measurement as the cake boards. So it was a very snug fit.
Thank you everyone!!! If y'all have any more questions about the shipping just let me know. I'm so happy to share with everyone ![]()
That is amazing. My wedding cake came from Georgia to Birmingham, AL in the trunk of a car (in layers of course) and I was sweating bullets. I can't imagine worrying about it on a place.
Congratulations! You are awesome.
