Let me just say, this is my favorite website! Everyone on here is full of wonderful ideas and talent.

My daughter is turning 5 and insist on having barbie and the 12 dancing princesses. I hate making sheet cakes as I like more of a challenge. However, I am drawing a total blank as to what to do for this cake. I also have to make a cake with the same theme for a 3 yr old later this month.
Any and all ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,
Michele

Could you do a doll cake for the Barbie and maybe do 12 cupcakes with Chocolate transer or Royal icing princesses (standing up) 'dancing' around her skirt?

How would I make princesses out of royal icing? I wouldn't mind to try to make princess/ballerina figures out of fondant but I am just terrible with faces.
Is a chocolate transfer anything like a buttercream transfer?

Oh, I just reread your post. Did you mean on the skirt as decoration or freestanding?

Another thought maybe do a castle cake, and in the windows put pictures of the dancing ones. You could cut them out of a book, or card, or maybe use stickers, and place each one in a window of the castle. You could frame them out, so it looks like their looking out the window...Make your towers or turets out of fondant, so the square part of the castle would be cake, then you could reuse them for the next party. Just a thought..

I've seen a Debbie Brown design where she uses cupcakes and makes them into skirts by covering them with fondant and then putting a molded head and torso on top of it. You could try something like that and then use a wonder mold for the barbie.

that sound so cute. I think they have something like that in the wilton '07 yearbook but they used the mini wondermold instead of cupcakes.

My Wilton yearbook has a wedding cake that you can use for your princesses. Use the regular size wonder mold for the big Barbie, then use the mini-wonder mold for the princesses.

you can also use the barbie doll pan and make her look like genevieve, and they have the small ones like someone posted for the Wilton picture that can make the other princesses. I have a photo of one I just did for a 5 yr old on my page.

THe idea was from debbie Brown's book which someone already mentioned. My daughter was having a fairy birthday party so we made the princesses into fairies. You could use the wondermold pan to make barbie and put her in the centre of all the princess cupcakes. Good luck and be sure t post a picicon_smile.gif

posted the same ques a little while ago. Someone made a wondermold cake and used the body you usually do but popped the head off and replaced it with the head from an actual genevieve doll. It was real pretty. I will try to find the link and post it for you. she used fondant for the dress and it was really pretty.
I am doing a FBCT of princess Genevieve. you can see the beginnings of it in my photos. It was my first, but once I apply it I am going to really jazz it up. Well see!

I adore the dresses!

Also, don't forget the floor pattern that allows the girls to "escape". I've always thought this was a neat design, but you never see it anywhere.
