i haven't used gumpaste, but have used pastillage, which i believe is very similar to gumpaste, but dries faster and dries bone hard. maybe using pastillage would work since you kind of need something sturdy? i would make the bottom piece first and fill it with balled up sarah and then let it dry upside down. then make a handle and attach it to the bottom with either some egg white, or even a little water.
