I have been looking for ideas for a wedding shower cake and I love the look of the diamond pattern that some of you put on fondant. Especially the diamond pattern with the little pearls in between. How do you get that effect? And where do you find the edible pearls?

Thanks!

I got my diamond impression mat from www.sugarcraft.com. You can also find them at www.CakesbySam.com and www.EarlenesCakes.com. I really like the impression mats and they are easy to use.

As for the edible pearls (dragees) I get mine from my local cake supply store. You can also order them off line from the websites I listed above and many others.

HTH!

Do you just use the impression mat on fondant or can you use it on buttercream as well? Thanks!

I have mostly used it on buttercream but you can use it on fondant as well. You would just apply a little more pressure.

ok, i dont know how the diamond patern works...but as for edible pearls..i just learned a trick from a class. If you flatten out fondant, and take a tip, we used #5, and press it into the fondant like 10 times. then put the tip upside down and little pieces of fondant will roll out. then roll the little pieces in balls. Then get a small container w/ a lid and pearl dust. Throw the small even sized balls in the container of dust and give a shake. After a while they will get harder. I hope that makes sense..kind of odd to explain heheeh.

I just tried that that on my very proud of mardi gras cake!
I used cookie cutters they are actually squares but wished my dragees would have been bigger!!!! I layed them on cornstarch then they wouldn't stick to the buttercream then I went dunce.gif so I brushed them with a little vanilla extract so they would stick and they did, good luck to you make sure you cake is all even I guess that's a trick if the cake is uneven and your diamonds are all the same it will still look uneven because of the uneven cake

When using the impression mats on B/C, just be sure that the B/C is crusted before applying the mat onto the icing...otherwise, the icing sticks to the mat when you lift it off after rubbing the pattern into the icing. These mats are great to use.
