Hi everyone!! ....sometimes I feel that I just cant get the right amount of filling in a cake. One of the last cakes I did was 5 tiers (yikes!!! it was a biggie but fun, I gotta post it!) Well, I dont think I put enough filling....it really did need a bit more.... icon_redface.gif

Is there a rule of thumb on how much (or less) filling you should put in a cake?!

Thnx!!!

Before placing the layers together you can add a filling to the layer. Some people or books also call spreading icing between the layers - filling the cake. The best way is to apply it about 1/4-inch thick.

Hope this can help.

Here is the link it came from:

Great website...thank you. I'm going to try that...1/4 thick.

I'm making a cake for a baby shower in 2 weeks so I want to make sure I get the filling just right this time around!!

Thanks again Leana!

that website is very good, sometime hard to figure out. She has a great book with recipes in it. Most of her recipes on her site you have to purchase. Make sure you put a border around the cake so the filling does not come out to the edge of the cake.

Enjoy.

When using a filling I make an icing dam around the edge of the cake using either a coupler with no tip or tip #12. When I add the filling I add it to right below the height of the icing dam.

I use the same method as TexasSugar, it seems to be just the right amount for my taste.
