I was thrilled to pieces when I found the heart shaped silicone cupcake pans and bought two of them. The round foil paper cups fit beautifully and keep the heart shape when baked and cooled. Now my questions is this. I know how to make a pretty icing swirl with a large star or shell tip on round cupcakes, but I want to use the heart shaped for the outside row on a cupcake tree wedding cake. How do I do a pretty swirl? If I start at the curved top and swirl around to the point from the left side, and repeat on the right I would end up with an empty space in the center. Any ideas out there?

I am going to do something I have never done before and something that annoys the heck out of me. But because I have had no replies to this question I am hoping there is still someone out there with the answer. So here goes

Hi Shirley!!

I used those silicone heart shaped cupcake for valentines this year. I made 150 of them. I was ssooo tired after I finished them, I totally FORGOT to take a pic, I am soooo mad at myself. What I did I used the 1M tip followed the outline for the heart shape and them went into the middle with kind of a star shaped kiss, and then I used a heart chocolate in the middle, so you did see the heart shape. Why bake in a heart shape if you dont want to keep the shape, so it was important to keep the heart shape and mine did. Everyone LOVED them, and I really liked how they turned out, I got quite a few orders for them after that for next month.

I forgot I too lined them with heart paper cupcake holders, and they held there shape really well. I was happy about that too, I just wish I had a pic to show you.

Thanks, I wish you had a photo as well. Yes, I don't want to lose the heart shape when I decorate the cupcakes. I think adding that star in the center will work well because each cake will have a small gumpaste rosebud and wired silver beaded hearts that will stick in the center of the cupcake. Maybe I am over thinking this because the rose itself will probably fill in the center space anyway. I just want them to look very pretty and special.
Thank you for your response, I was beginning to feel abandoned. icon_biggrin.gif

Your welcome Shirley, and since you do have a rose going in the middle, it will look perfect. They all questioned me on how I got the heart shape. You know the picture thing really bugs me, and I dont have any cakes to do this weekend, I just may remake a dozen of these and then I will have my pic! LOL.....I have learned a good lesson, NEVER FORGET PICTURES!!!

Off subject, thanks again for the advice about gumpaste tools, I have since gotten my celcakes mat and celpads and a metal ball tool. LOL...slowly slowly I buy buy buy.....

Good, I'd love to see the pictures and your family will love that you are doing cupcakes, "win, win."

Also good on the tools, you will find they make such a big difference. I know they are an expensive investment but they will last a lifetime and make your job (playtime) so much easier and enjoyable. icon_smile.gif

If you look in my pictures, you should see two different heart shaped mini cake pictures. They are not "cupcakes" but they are about the same size.

Thank you. Those are very pretty Daisy and your over all work is gorgeous. I just don't want to have to ice 150 cupcakes with a spatula. I am looking for a large star or shell tip piped swirl of icing on each cupcake.
