OK, so I have my first order this weekend. It was supposed to be a cupcake cake for 35 people. I didn't know what to charge, so I was conservative and only charged $40. She immediately said "oh, is that all? Why don't you make it for 50 people and I'll pay you $20 more." So, I'm doing a CCC for 50 people for $60, with a chocolate transfer on top (about $40-45 profit). Actually, the actual CCC may only be for 25 or so and the rest I'll just frost. Anyway...then she asked again if I was sure that was enough money...what was I supposed to say? I didn't feel like I could go back on what I said at that point so I said yes. What would you have done? Did I totally screw myself on this?

If it makes you feel better, I usually charge $1.10/ea for cupcakes and so my estimate would have been about the same. Then I add about $5-$8 for a transfer.

I wouldn't be surprised if she gave you a tip though since she asked you twice-- I wouldn't have gone back and changed your initial quote either.

Thanks, Elvis...that does make me feel better. I even asked DH about it and he said that I was pretty much boxed in at that point. Is it wrong I'm kind of hoping for a little tip? icon_redface.gif Obviously it's totally fine if she doesn't...I told her a price. But, it would be nice to have a little more to buy some tools/supplies! icon_razz.gif

My first cake I ever sold, I totally undersold myself. Embarrasingly so. Since it was my first actual order, I didn't have prices in mind, so came up with one on the spot without thinking. I kicked myself for a good week over that one. But hey, live and learn right?! That's gotta be a great confidence booster, knowing that others feel your hard work is valuable.

I know how you feel....

I quoted $35 for a cake, my first paying cake.. and she said she would have paid $60 LOL. Its ok, I mainly wanted to do this one to get my cakes out into the public that isnt just my family and friends.. ya know? Next time I'll know better. Im still nervous to ask for higher prices because Im a beginner....

Iheartcake...yeah, it does make me feel a little better. She acknowledged that it was hard work. That counts for something, right? It's also a good way to get to get some exposure...and practice!
