I tried one suggestion of earlenes.com, but the site is no longer available. Any other ideas? Thanks! icon_biggrin.gif

You can get chalk at Michael's or even Dollar store. As long as it's non-toxic. Earlene's chalk is packaged pretty though, but it's the same thing as you would buy at Michael's or dollar store.

And you can put this chalk on cake? Does it affect the taste?

you can use for painting on cakes or whatever the purpose of the chalk is. i us it for small coloring on flowers once they are try. using a wet brush and just wetting the chalk...always good results.

Allthough these chalks are non-toxic, they are not tasteless (the obvious chalk taste). I'm not too sure about using these for cakes...maybe when mixed with either lemon x-tract or vodka it won't taste bad...
Anyways, I know the main purpose would be to shave for use on gum paste flowers...Pretty convenient actually.
These you would find at any craft / art supply store.

Okay, so are there food grade chalks, or do you just use the chalk in a small amount assuming people won't eat them?
I keep seeing sets of chalks, like sticks (resembling pastels) in decorating books, but haven't seen them in stores or online. I like that palate of chalks though.
