Can anyone give me some examples? I'm not even really sure what Art Deco really means...

My nephew and his girlfriend are getting married in December. I thought I might make up a 'dummy' cake to show them. They want it in Browns, Champagne and Pinks....

Any ideas?
TIA

Art Deco is very geometric in design. I'd Google "Art Deco" and see what comes up. There are a lot of examples of this in architecture and art glass. I would think that you could get some wonderful inspiration from pottery or jewelry designs from the Art Deco period.

Here is a place I go often to find themed cakes. Ask Ginka. Scroll down to the cakes near the bottom. I especially LOVE Ron Ben Israels art deco cake.

You will find that not every bakeries cakes will still be there and that is frustrating. I think when they start thier own websites they remove their photos from ginka.

Art Deco had lots of geometric shapes, mainly elongated triangles and metallic art work. If you are going to use a topper for the cake I would suggest something very sleek and modern, elongated bride and groom etc. Here is a link to the type of female forms done by a fabulous artist named Erte' in the 1920s and 30s.

There is a two? tiered cake on here that is uber cool. It features painted tiles going down one side. As soon as I saw it, I thought of my artist sil. I've been trying to figure out ever since when I can do something similar. I'll try to find it and post the link.

Okay, not sure if this is particularly art deco, but I LOVE it.

Your welcome. I collect Art Deco and my favorite designer was Erte'. I also find Ask Ginka to be very helpful when you are looking for a specific theme or design.

I'm a post-modern artist myself and love, love, love many of my contemporaries most of whom are very obscure and have not yet been "discovered".

However, I enjoy many items from that era, especially the jewelry and other minor art forms such as wallpaper, clothing, appliance designs, etc......

This was my interpretation of an Art Deco cake. The inspiration was a photo of an Art Deco brooch I found on Ebay.

I'm doing an art deco for my sister-in-law's wedding. She wants 5 different size packages with art deco type wrap on each cake. They'll be a combination of circles, diamonds, dots and stripes going various directions. Not quite sure how I'm doing it, I'm planning to do a few practice cakes also! I did find a few pictures...some are way out of my expertise!!

This is a type of art deco....geometric designs. Not as formal the the BEAUTIFUL cake above, more casual in design I think.
