I'm making my first paid cake this weekend (I don't know what I got myself into!) and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. The serving size charts all seem soooo *tiny* to me, so I was thinking about doing a cupcake cake. I don't know if the client would go for that or not, or if they wanted an actual CAKE. I have to get a plan and a price for her and call her back today.

I'm thinking to get the shape and proportion of a cupcake, you'd have to do at least 3-4 layers and a half of a ball (or carve a tall layer to have a rounded shape). And your bottom layer is gonna be smaller than your 2nd layer and so on.

i'm not sure of the diameter of the cakes though. I would look at serving sizes for each pan size and go from there. If you're worried about the serving sizes being too small, just adjust them as you think they should be.

Wow, thanks for all the great info! I'm wondering, though, if you put 35 cupcakes together how large of an area would it cover? I've never done one and I'm having a hard time visualizing....

32-36 cupcakes will fit on a 19 x 14 board.

get the cupcake paper you'll use or at least ones the same size and you can put them in whatever shape you might want to use or get a good idea of one and see how much space you'll need.

Thanks, those templates are great! Can anyone tell me if the 1.5 inch cupcakes are regular size ones? They seem bigger...

I make the regular size cupcakes and on a 9x14 board, I usually put 28-30. I could fit 32 or 33 if I tried but I don't like them right up to the very edges all the way around.
