How Large Would A Cupcake Cake For 35 Be?

I'm making my first paid cake this weekend (I don't know what I got myself into!) and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. The serving size charts all seem soooo *tiny* to me, so I was thinking about doing a cupcake cake. I don't know if the client would go for that or not, or if they wanted an actual CAKE. I have to get a plan and a price for her and call her back today.
I'm thinking to get the shape and proportion of a cupcake, you'd have to do at least 3-4 layers and a half of a ball (or carve a tall layer to have a rounded shape). And your bottom layer is gonna be smaller than your 2nd layer and so on.
i'm not sure of the diameter of the cakes though. I would look at serving sizes for each pan size and go from there. If you're worried about the serving sizes being too small, just adjust them as you think they should be.
Here's a serving chart thread:
