Birthday/Good luck cake. This saturday I have to make a cake for a guy that is going into NYS Corrections and it is also his birthday. Please help me come up with an idea to combine both. His wife wants a 11X15 sheet cake. I want something cool. She doesn't care how I decorate it. She said it can be plain with flowers as long as it has whipped frosting. My husband and I are invited to the party so I'd hate to make it so simple looking. (I love to hear comments)

Please help

What if you do a smaller sheet cake and then do a lucky horseshoe cake stacked on top of that one? You could decorate with shamrocks and such for the good luck part and then use your words to say the happy birthday thing. It would still serve the amount of people that you need it to, just be more interesting to look at. I dont' think I'd do flowers either since it's for a guy unless HE specifically requested them.

Thanks for you help Michelle104. But that won't work seeing how she just called and now wants it for Friday night and her husband wants something with a jail cell on it. Any ideas now??

I'm sorry I don't have any ideas, I just wanted to comment on what good humor these people have about a bad situation!

LOL!!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif I thought you meant as a career choice! He's goin in as in.....IN????? You could do the sheet cake and do a thick either black or steel grey border around the whole outside, like a thick flat border. Then pipe on the jail bars and then just pipe on arms and hands with fingers wrapped around the bars..ok, it makes more sense to put the arms on first, then do the bars, then do the fingers last. I hope you can understand my flaky runaway mind!!! LOL icon_confused.gificon_redface.gificon_lol.gif Is he going IN???? icon_confused.gif

icon_surprised.gif I like the last idea. Could have some dynamite or an old round bomb?

If his sense of of humor is that good to request a jail scene, then I'd do that. It's what he wants. I too want to know....is he going in in or is he going to corrections school for NYS?

Well that sure does make it a different story now doesn't it? I was going to suggest canning the decorations all together and concentrate on baking a cake with a file in the middle of it!

i laughed out loud!!!! thank you!

black and white fondant stripes (bars) on top of the cake, a fondant ball and chain and then little gumpaste or fondant four leaf clovers. The ball could be "wearing" a fondant birthday hat, with a little confetti sprinkled around.

You guys are soooo funny!!! I love the idea of a ball and chain with a party hat on top. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Jail bars with hands picking a lock. Or Jail bars with a file breaking one of the bars and the file sticking straight out of the cake.

I will post a picture when I'm finished. My husband said to bad I didn't have a picture of him I could put it behind the bars and make it look like he was going to jail.

Wow. I was wondering that these folks must REALLY be making the best of a bad situation. Even for a guard, I like the idea of a file or key buried in the cake somehow. I also like the Get Out of Jail Free card idea.

Ok here it is. It's not quite the way I wanted it but I think she liked it. I can get it to post so you'll have to look in my pictures.
