I'm doing my first paid cake this weekend. icon_eek.gif I need a 50th bday cake for 35. (I guess my first question is what size cake I will need, for decent sized pieces?) I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to do a FBCT (I need to find a good picture to use, first) or if I'm going to do something like one of these:

Help? I was thinking of doing an 8" round on a 9x13...would that be enough cake for 35? Then I'm either going to draw the image on top or do a little fondant figure.

Yes, that should be enough cake. I dont know if you are doing a double or single layer 9x13, but either way I would say that would be enough. I was going to say a 10 inch with 6 inch on top.

Yes, but how much to charge? icon_biggrin.gif

I was also thinking about a cupcake cake, but didn't know how large it would end up, with 35 cupcakes. Anyone know?

A good starting point to charge is 3-4 times your cost..
Maybe that will help you

A double layer 9x13 serves 45 party servings. If you are making a single 9x13 it will serve about 24, and the double 8" will serve 20. For my sheet cakes I start at $1.25 for basic flavor and butterceam filling. There is an extra fee for special flavors and fillings. For stacked or tiered cakes I start at $2.50 per serving for basic flavors and extra for special flavors and fillings. If you are doing a fondant figure I would charge extra for that and for buttercream transfers I add $10. Hope this helps.
