Hello everyone,

I am quite new to cake decorating, and I have really enjoyed the pictures and tips I have found here.
I have a question for you about icing cupcakes. I would like to make cupcakes where the icing looks like a great big swirl, sort of like a soft-serve ice cream cone. I went to the local hardware store (the only place in town to get decorating supplies!), and I bought the biggest star tip I could find. It is called a "1C" tip. Will this make those pretty swirly cupcakes? I didn't buy the coupler yet. Is it possible to use the tip with a disposable decorating bag without a coupler?

Thank you all for any help and advice!
Dianna

I use the 1M tip to do the swirl on the cupcakes and use the coupler with it. I suppose you could use it without the coupler in the bags or parchment triangles but it is so big that it would be awkward, I would think.

I use the 1M tip and that makes a nice big swirl. Just make sure you use a big enough bag- because it uses icing fast- no coupler really needed.
