That is a Magnificent cake. I would definitly charge no less than $800.

To price your cake Take the cost of ingredients and supplies used and multiply by a complexity factor of no less than 7.

I took a class on the business of cakes and this is what it said: cost x complexity= price.

complexity chart starts at 3 and goes to 7.

Hope this helps.

I totally agree with the pricing ckdcr8r suggested. If you ever have to do all the work again for someone else, it better be worth it. It is one of the most amazing Catles I have seen. Excellent job!!!

I have seen cakes like that on websites that didn't look 1/2 as good for $1000 to $1500. You did a wonderful job, I know anyone who see's it would be in awe.

this cake is a triumph of art and architecture. congrats on a fantastic creation. i agree with those who estimate between $800 - 1000. but perhaps you could also charge per serving as with other cakes - maybe starting at $5?
anyone interested in ordering a masterpiece like this, i'm sure would be happy to pay premium price.

No less than $750. I'd probably charge $900. If this cake looks in person anything like it does in the photo it's worth double that, but getting someone to pay that much might be a trick. If you live in a big city where decorators with your skill (assuming there are any others) are getting over a thousand for cakes, I'd take note of that.

I think what I'd do here is start at $900. If you get no orders, maybe try $800. On the other hand, if you get even one or two people wanting this cake at that price charge more what's worth the next time around... basically charge based on demand and what your customers are willing to pay. If you advertise in the right places and really let people see what you're capable of I'm sure in time you could easily sell this cake to someone for $1200. Considering how large it is, how hard it must be to transport, all the hours you put into it, and the fact that many wedding cakes cost as much, this cake is worth every penny.

Actually, that might be another way to gage the price... find out what the most expensive bakery in your area charges for a wedding cake that consists of as many servings. Your cake can't be compared to a basic wedding cake, but that would give you an idea of what people are willing to pay for a cake. Then, add a bit to the price for originality and uniqueness!

Your cake is awesome! Could be in a magazine! Which, hey if you were to be published you could probably charge $3,000 for this cake! lol Actually, I'm dead serious! I think that's what Duff gets for a lot of his cakes!

Good luck to you!
Wendy

I totally agree with wendysue if I have half of your talent I will send a picture of that cake to a couple of magazines. I'm completely sure they will printed.
That is a lot of cake is there any way to increase the exposure for the event. In one way you can help your sons troop but at the same time get serious costumers.

here's the thing... i'm not a licensed kitchen... yet. I do this for fun out of my home. i have only been decorating cakes for 10 months. So, if someone wants a cake i just make it for them and accept a donation. I would love to go professional but have no clue how to do it

Okay back at ya alaskanmom, what do you want to get for this cake? Andddddd, could you find someone willing to pay that price?

You worked almost a full week to create it. Would someone pay you almost a full week's wages?

Do you have a client base that has that kind of money? If not, then you have two choices in my book either scale back the cake or build up the client base.

Buttttt, if you are looking for feedback, then I must tell you your cake is fabulous!
