I would love to be able to recreate one of Collette Peters wedding cakes. I think the woman has an enormous amount of artistic talent. I have a lot of difficulties when working with fondant icing, so for now this is just a dream. But, with practice I hope to SOMEDAY be half as talented as she is, her work is absolutely amazing. I have 3 of her books, and "Cakes to Dream On" totally sums it up for me!

I would love to be able to do one of the cakes that wins the ICES, with the unbleavable string work detail. WOW
I really do prefere to do wedding cakes rather than general birthday cakes because I hate coloring frosting. I would rather take 2 days on one cake than 2 hours with many different colors, tips and mess. I know,, I must be nuts
Happy New Year

With Styrofoam, all is possible! Why wait for an order?? You can do any wedding cake you want, and then have an example cake to show for it that will last a long time!! I just finished one that I've been wanting to do for a long time (it's posted to my photos). Happy Decorating.!!!

ellepal,
Regarding dummy cakes, what is up with that?
Do you buy the round styrofoam from a craft store or web site?
Do you cover it with plastic (saran) wrap, then buttercream, then fondant?
Do you keep the finished product as is for some time covered or open to air?
Sorry for all the questions but this just occured to me to be the answer I have been looking for!!!!
I have my first bridal show in 2/06 and was wondering how I was going to make all the cakes for display.
I looked at your photos, wow, wow!!!!!!

I'd love to do a wedding dress cake. It's been a long time since I've done a wedding cake so I'd like to do any kind again sometime soon.

I made the Promises Kept cake several years ago. What a huge cake! It was fun, but a lot of work though. I'll have to scan the picture so I can add it to my photos. I made it before I had a digital camera.

beany, I've never made a wedding dress cake. I'd love to though. I've been wanting to make one since I first saw them (which was somewhere on this site, maybe in a forum somewhere?). I made a flat wedding dress cake using the Barbie shaped pan for a bridal shower, but it wasn't very good and I wasn't proud of it. I don't think I even took a picture of it. I have made a lot of wedding cakes but that was probably 5 years ago. I have made the Promises Kept cake which is the really long rectangular cake with the half circle in front and round cakes stacked on top with stairs between them. I'll find the picture, scan it and upload it.

I could probably make a dummy wedding dress cake using styrofoam huh? I've been wanting to make some dummy wedding cakes just for the practice and so I can take pictures for my portfolio, which hasn't been updated in several years.

Well this one from Susan Morgan because I love the color combination and all the details in it...The other is a possible cake order I hope comes through this year by Margaret Braun.

I love the brown on blue cake posted by Antonia...I'm sure It'll look equally stunning in pink thumbs_up.gif

Someone was asking about styrofoam -- that's what I work on when I want to do something cool but don't have orders that would dictate it. First buy a stryrofoam dummy in the shape and size you want. I have the 6 x 4 to the 16 x 4 inch rounds. Paint them with an acrylic based paint (I use semigloss which makes it easier to rinse off after.) Then I wrap it with plastic wrap and "crumb coat" it with unflavored decorator icing and/or unflavored fondant. This gives me opportunity to practice and take pix which comes in handy for selling my truly cool ideas to the clients! icon_wink.gif
