I've seen a few of these in the gallery. Maybe do a search and pm one of the people that has done one.

HI

I have done a couple of the playstation controllers (there's a pic in my photo's). I cut out of paper the basic shape of the controller. I then cut my cake using that template. Then I just looked at the real contoller and decorated from there. I used black fondant as well.
If you have any other questions you can PM me.

Good luck!

I just am lost on that 3D look! I had a flat sheet cake so far and I am thinking that all that smoothing was for nothing last night! More ideas are coming to more now that I saw Gibsons awesome cake! But I am still lost!

That was way too weird!

The flat sheet cake would be the playstation part right? Then I made a seperate cake 9 x 13 specifically for the controller then cut out the controller shape out of that cake. If you have a smaller pan you could use that too for the controller part of the cake.

I hope this is helping!

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments!

Tammy- the bride only wants the controller that is it! So I am having to do a HUGE controller for the wedding. As of now it is a small one for practice though......so only the controller is all I need, and yours was awesome like I said! icon_smile.gif

I have a playstation cake in my pictures, too, but the controller was done beside the cake in all fondant.

If you're doing a sheet cake, it wouldn't be that hard, just chill and carve it to shape it a bit, and use fondant colored pieces for the buttons. I think it'd be fun.

Let us know how it turns out.

Okay, so I would probably do the same thing. Cut out of paper as big as you need the shape of the controller. I need to do this because I just can't free hand it! If you can free hand it by all means!
Sounds like you've already put your buttercream on. I would just build up the areas with more buttercream to give it that 3D look, you know where I put the fondant circles under the fondant? build that up with buttercream. For me it would take a while to get it smooth again but you want it to be raised just a little. For the actual controls on the controller like the X,O, triangle and square same thing. Pipe some circles and wait until they crust to smooth out maybe dip you finger in cornstartch to smooth those the best you can. Then pipe those symbols on it. Same with the control that moves you up or down side to side.
Does any of this make sense, it does in my head so it might not to you LOL!

Again, I've never done this in buttercream only with fondant so this is just how I would do it.

It does make sence in a way. I am printing stuff out so I can reread it over and over so that will help as well.....
