Hello all,
What do you mix with the dusts to paint them on? Can you use water? Thank so much!!! icon_confused.gif

I use any kind of clear alcohol to paint on luster dust. Almond extract, Kirsh, Coconut Rum, whatever I have around. Although some sugary ones can get a little sticky. I think some people use vodka, I just never have that lying around the kitchen.

You use alcohol to paint the luster dusts on!! I've taken the advice of other CC'ers and use Everclear because of the high alcohol content; it dries faster.

I also heard you can use certain extracts!!

Can you use Wilton Clear Vanilla extract? I have absolutely no clear alcohol in this house!

Thanks!

Lemon extract leaves behind just a hint of flavor if you want to go that route. I however only use Vodka. Just like everclear it dries fast. I think the higher the proof the faster it dries. I bought a bottle of it and keep it in the house just for decorating. The alcohols don't leave any taste behind either.

One other advantage to using the alcohol is that if you get the mixture too thin, just leave it exposed to the air for a little while and it will evaporate down quickly to the consistancy (sp?) you need. When I am done using it, I leave the little bowl (I actually use disposable shot glasses with lids) out to dry completely out. Put the lid on and store it away until I need it again. Then add more vodka and Voila- no wasted dust!!!

I use lemon extract. I like it, it dries quickly, but you will need a larger bottle if you are doing a lot of painting.
