I see it's making the rounds again. That email has been going around for a couple of years now, it says the babies are made of marzipan. Actually they are made of polymer clay by an artist named Camille Allen, she sells the babies on eBAY and her website and they go for around $1,000.

She is amazingly talented, but they are not made from marzipan. I got the same email a couple of months ago from my niece. I did an internet search because I was interested and found the artist's site and it explains that these are not as the email states. Still...she is amazing.

They have been posted a few times before and they aren't marzipan. They are polymer clay. They are awesome though!!

These have been making the rounds on the Web for over a year.

They're not made of marzipan, fondant, or gum paste. They're made from polymer clay that is baked after shaping.

You could do something very similar in a sugar paste, but the details would probably not be as crisp.

Pardon me for the mistake. I just got the email, it said marzipan, so that it the only information I had. I am actually disappointed now! I think they are precious regardless. Especially because I am pregnant!

Regardless of what they're made of, they're still awesome to see.

I adore them and my goal this year is to learn to do these in gumpaste or 50/50 paste. certainly not as well as she does them, but a hopeful rendition. The thing Is they would have to be for decoration only, I could not cut into these or eat one and I would be crushed if anyone else did.

I would also have issues with eating those expectant mom belly cakes...I swear I think of Charles Manson when I see one!

i got that email way back when i was barely starting to learn to do cakes. I thought it was amazing. But then came accross the truth, they are not marzipan babies. There has also been several posts here on CC about them.

gawd... i think those cakes are a little creepy.. and the polymer clay babies freak me out! but then again, i have a really hard time making any cake that is of an alive thing.... same with pinatas.... i have a hard time making a princess... then having her cut up and eaten! as well as if the princess was a pinata! "ok kids! let's bash the princess open and get her cool innards!" the babies are just so tiny, they make me think of babies born too son.... too sad.... ok..i brought the thread to a new low! sorry! lol

I had a hard enough time cutting up the dog cakes I've made. I could never cut up a realistic baby cake! *shudder*

(My dh kept urging me to make the dog cake filling red. EW! Needless to say, I didn't do it)

Congratulations, Princess3, about your news!
If somebody has made them from clay then why don't some of us could make from gum paste or sugar or marzipan? It is quite possible. I know lots of talented peoples are here on CC.
Don't be disappointed; because of you lots of people are now thinking about making them, right ladies?

Thanks for sharing this great thing with us.
Take care,
Nitu

I agree those babies are made out of poloymer clay and boy are they pricey. I have her web site bookmarked in my computer. It crashed now I am on my lap top. But her peices are one of a kind and a long waiting list just to get them.

They are amazing. I could never be that talented. I could see making them for a cake, but saving them as a keep sake for the expectant mother or something like that, not eating them for sure!

* Thankyou for all your well wishes on my pregnancy we are very excited and find out soon what it is. As soon as I find out I will let ya know!!
