Hi guys! I need some serious help! I am planning on doing a Wedding Show, and want to know what is the best size for my cake dummy cakes. My local cake store only supplies up to 12inch dummies, but I don't think this will have much of a 'wow factor' for large stacked wedding cakes. What do you think? Also, what is the best height for these cakes, 3 or 4 inches? And, lastly, my stand is 4x2 meters and I am only looking at having 6 demo cakes. Is this really bad? Sorry, I know it is a lot of questions, my apologies!
I'm not super experienced here, but I'll give you my own opinion.
I prefer the 4" height for the dummies. Especially for a wedding show. They are more dramatic and elegant looking. And I wouldn't do more than 6 - it's better to have a few show stoppers - too many and they will get lost in the jumble of overwhelming. Better to have a few cakes they can really look at.
I just did a wedding expo yesterday. I was sandwhiched inbetween to very big bakeries. They each had a corner and I was in the middle. Anyway, I managed to get the Wow factor, because I was the only one who brought a water fountain display. If you have one and your booth has electric, I highly recommend using it! Everyone came to check it out, and in turn looked at all my displays and my book, took a piece of cake and a card. The other bakeries each have quite a reputation, but I was pretty proud of myself for having something that they didn't and held my own!
I also made sure I had different shaped dummy cakes. One was a stacked heart shape, two were square, one with basketweave. Two were round with one having seperators. I also made sure one was covered in rolled fondant and one had fondant accents. For the rounds, I used 6", 10", 14" and they were 4" high. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun! And bring at least two different kinds of cake tastings. I made sheet cakes, half vanilla, half chocolate cake. One had raspberry filling the other bavarian cream and both were frosted in buttercream.
