bra or slip without a lace mold. I was going to order one but I just can't afford it and this lady who was tetering on a no for a lingerie cake has said yes
and it is only a week away
. I thought I had seen someone not long ago post a lingerie thing that was a painted lace pattern or something like that. I am making a victoria's secret box with lingerie all around it for a bridal shower. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
?
I've seen in one of the Cake Decorating books where you can take strips of fondant and poke holes in them with a tooth pick. Then outline the holes with a thin ring of royal icing. It looks very nice and just like pretty lace.

You can buy a piece of lace from a fabric store, dip it in liquid starch and allow to dry flat on a piece of wax or acetate paper, you may have to dip and dry more than once to get it stiff enough. Use it as you would an impression mat or one sided mold. You may not get the fine detail you would with a silicone mold, but it will give you a lacy design.
that's a cool idea ShirleyW! I was going to suggest using a piece of fondant and poking holes in patterns using the tip ends of 1, 2 & 3 size tips, or even bigger to make the patterns. I have little sets like that that are a circle with the holes all atached to make lace, but you could easily do it freehand as well. To make eyelet, I just cut out the holes, then use a small piping tip to pipe around the edges and make dots in between. Good luck! ![]()
Hello
consider this: ( it is inexpensvie, easy to do) buy a small plastic doillie or textred place mat from the dollar store. Wash it well, let it dry well, dust it with icing sugar and use it as you would use an impression mat.
works quite well.
ciao

There you go. The winner is Fascination!
Hi Shirley...
Now all you have to do is take a photo for us to gawk over...
because I know that whatever you create will be stunning.
have fun; can't wait to see your final product.
ciao
Using a cheap doily is what I use. I roll out my fondant and press the doily lightly then brush it with lustre dust and I get the same efect of "lace" on the fondant.
I did a black lace pattern on an ivory colored fondant cake by placing a large piece of lace over the entire cake and then carefully frosted the cake with black royal icing. I had to hold the lace in place, and kept my knife damp while frosting it. Then gently peel the lace off. I have tried it with buttercream, but it does not seem to work as well as royal icing.
Can't wait to see your cake when you are done.
Good luck....

found this
couturiere made the pattern in fondant, then brushed luster dust over a stencil

I was going to suggest an idea similar to Fascination's. I found a plastic place mat for 99 cents at the Williamsburg Pottery in Williamsburg, VA over the weekend that has a flower and lace raised pattern on it. I tested it for this purpose and it works great!
Now I'm looking for something to make with it!! ![]()
