I was asked my by cousin to make a cake for her son's baptism. She wants 1/2 & 1/2. Since she loves chocolate, but not everyone does.
She wants it in form of a book. Now IMO if i do a chocolate cake, i need to frost it with chocolate. I think it'll kill the taste of that good ol' all chocolate cake.
what do you think?

how about making a white chocolate buttercream??? that way you still have the chocolate flavor, but it lends itself to to be colored. Personally, I think vanilla icing is fine with chocolate because chocolate is so strong of a flavor, sometimes it can be over powering. You could also try the flavored oils, like raspberry or strawberry.

personally i like chocolate cake with any kind of frosting. sometimes chocolate with chocolate frosting is too rich. i you wanted to do the chocolate frosting but needed the white pages you could cover it with fondant or cover it with chocolate and make fondant pages so it looks like the chocolate is the bible cover and you've opened the book to look at what you are writing on the cake. then you could pipe a small amount of your chocolate on the bottom of the white cake for the back of the book. if you did a chocolate wedding cake you'll still make it white wouldn't you?

White icing is great on Chocolate cake! It has a nice flavor contrast.

did you mean the 1/2 chocolate 1/2 white cake? If so, you just make your 2 batters separately and put a wax paper divider in the middle of your pan. I usually have my husband there to hold it, but you can clip it in place and just pour your batters in side by side. I did a cake like this for Christmas and it came out great except i forgot what side was what after i frosted it. oops icon_biggrin.gif HTH

I prefer white icing on chocolate cake. I love chocolate, but sometimes the chocolate icings kill the taste of the chocolate cake for me. You really can't go wrong with whatever you decide, I'm sure it will taste great.

hello
here is one other option for you...
depending on how big a cake you need to make, you can have your book sitting on a base. so the book could be vanilla cake with vanillia icing and the base could be chocolate with chocolate icing. I would look like a book on a table or pedestal.
I have the very small book pans (2 small pans which form a book when put together) so I often put it on a base. Makes it look more impressive.
ciao

Who makes the food rules? Who says chocolate cake is with chocolate icing only? Come on! Go out on a limb! Be adventurous! Slap that white icing on the chocolate cake! Be a rebel! icon_razz.gif
