I'm wondering if anyone has the Wilton letter press sets? You know you arrange the letters and make the message and press into the icing. My writing is making me nuts!! I ruined a cake today because my writing looks so bad. I was just wondering if anyone found this to be helpful. Thanks!

I have the letter press which I've used before. They are helpful but one MAIN thing you have to remeber,do not push the letters too far into the icing b/c the indentations will be too deep and it may look funny. Otherwise they are pretty helpful!

I use the letters but not the holder it comes with. I used to use it but I always ended up pressing too much and left an imprint of the holder. Looked pretty bad with the lines on the cake above and below the lettering.

I just position the letters on the cake freehand and lightly press. With the letter "A" make sure you don't press that one too hard or else the triangle part of the "A" will come out and then you have a hole where frosting used to be. Learned that last week!!

I wish they would come out with lower case letters as well as different types of script. Now that would be cool!!!!!!

I have the Wilton letter press and use it on every cake I do. Like the others have said you need to watch how hard you press otherwise the holder will make marks on your cake. My printing is pretty bad and the letterpress makes my letters look a lot better.
The only problem I had was the letters fit into the holder very tight, to the point I could get them stuck. I just used a piece of sand paper and now the all the letters fit perfectly

I have the press, and have used it (I agree, don't press too hard) I had an instructor give me a better idea though...use either melted chocolate, royal icing or buttercream, and place it in a bag with a number 2 or 3 tip. Print out on your computer the writing you want to do on a piece of paper and then lay a peice of wax paper over it. Trace out the writing on the wax paper, and then put it out to dry (you can even store the royal icing, and make a bunch of "Happy Birthdays" and things like that to have on hand!) Peel it off and place on cake! This way, you can have different fonts and sizes and all kinds of options!

That is an awesome idea loriemoms. I think I might have to use that one.

I, too, have the letter press. I really like it... but all my lettering is the same. I wish they would come in different fonts and sizes. There are times when the lettering is just too small.

the letter press works great for me...mine were also tight because the little tabs that hold them together for pakaging need to be trimmed off...I use mine in the holder or free hand depending on the situation..more fonts would be nice all I have found is the regular and italics
