It's not an expensive toy but it is one that will save me so much time and so much work.

I got a crank sifter that will hold 3 lbs! My little 5 cup sifter that I have to squeeze the handle has been KILLING me when I'm sifting so much! I am thrilled.

Very nice. Do you know if there are any electric sifters?

Funny you should say that...

I haven't seen any, but my husband and I were talking about how Kitchenaid should make an attachment that sifts right into the bowl... THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

A few years ago, before I came a stay at home mom, I was a brand representative for Whirlpool (Kitchenaid is owned by Whirlpool, and was one of my brands that I covered.) They are always looking for ideas like that from consumers, so if I were you I would definately e-mail them your idea! I have a KA, a sifter attachment is something that I would definatley purchase!!

Thats great about your sifter! I went to the store yesterday and forgot to get a new one bc I have a cheap dollar store one and it s*cks! I think if KA put one out that would be my next new best friend beside my mixer!

Here is a battery powered one I was considering:

At least that battery powered one has a lid on it. I have one like Mrs.Right is waiting for, the problem is when you are cranking, stuff is flying out the top. I now cover the top with wax/parchment paper and hold it on with a rubber band. This allows me to crank fast and get it done. But it would be so much easier with a lid that snaps on.

The whole point of sifting is to get air into the mix...I hate sifting, I just whisk it for a few minutes, but I would think that one could use the whisk attachment on the kitchenaid to do the same. icon_lol.gif

I just use a very large wire mesh sieve and my special electric tool, my hand. No sifting handle just swirl your hand around the sieve and the flour goes through quickly and easily. I am wondering how much dust the electric or battery operated ones generate.

I'm reading Alton Brown's book about baking and he always uses his food processor to sift flour.

I use the big one too. I save the bags the bulk flour and sugar come in...cut them open, lay them on the counter and sift my ingredients into the, lift and make slight fold and pour ingredients into the mixers.

For right now this will work... but I do agree, maybe an e-mail to Kitchen-Aid from all of us would help. icon_wink.gif

or I drape a colander over my 5 qt mixer and add the ingredients to the top and just bang it lightly on the sides and that works very well also!

Oh wow, that sifter is the shizzle!! I'd really like to have a good one. I have a piece of garbage from Ikea that my daughter is going to have given to her for her place this week! It's horrid.

Well, after having my sweet husband sifting my powdered sugar for quite some time and having him complain CONSTANTLY about it, I decided that enough was enough.

While I've been using a simple mesh strainer for this, it doesn't fit on some bowls, and than soemtimes I'm sifting so much powdered sugar that the sifted powdered sugar reaches too high...

UGH!

Anyway, I'll definately use a piece of foil over the top with this, but I needed something I could do faster and with less and squeezing motion!

Rachel

I bought a sifter just like that from Chef's magazine and it worked great for a little while and then the mesh basket kept slipping and it didn't sift so well. icon_cry.gif For now I'm back to my manual mesh sifter. I need to call them, maybe mine was just defective.

Anyway, when it was working well, I took a cake board and cut out a circle the size of the bottom of the sifter. I placed that, with the sifter on top, over one of my square tupperware storage containers and it was great! Before I did this, hand would get so tired holding the sifter over the bowl.
