I'm making an Elmo cake for my cousin's son's first birthday. This is my practice cake of just the Elmo part (see it in my photos). I ran out of frosting, so the hands and feet are not complete. Also, just had enough to do one leg. I didn't make more frosting because it was just my practice one and I wanted to see if I could at least get the concept right. Thanks so much to Swe3ts and to lilrev for your help and instructions. The final cake will be Elmo sitting on the big cake holding the smaller smash cake.

I'd like honest opinions on what looks good, what looks bad, what I could have done better and how. Thanks for looking!

You did a fantastic job!! Do you mind if I use this idea? I am doing an Elmo cake for my nephew in March. I did a little practice one yesterday but I like this set up much better! The only thing I would do is not to make his mouth so wide open. Does that make sense? The corners of his mouth a little more pointed. Great job!!! Did you use the leaf tip for this? #67?

My Elmo is in my photos....let me know what you think.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. The idea isn't mine, it was from lilrev and Swe3ts. They both had instructions on how to do this under their pictures. They were both very kind in answering my many questions as well. The head is a rice krispy treat molded in the big ball pan. The body is the wonder mold pan with an 8" round under it. The arms and legs are just piped frosting. I used the grass tip for the whole body. The eyes and nose are fondant.

Michelle104 thanks for the advice, I think you are right, I'll try and make the mouth a little smaller. Your cake is so cute! I was actually just looking at that yesterday. icon_biggrin.gif

My idea is to do Elmo and instead of doing a smash cake that he is holding, using the big ball pan and have him holding onto that as Dorothy's Bowl...what do you think? I'll be making one this weekend because my nephew's bday is next weekend so I'll practice and see how it goes. Wish me luck! I'm sure you'll be hearing from me before this is all said and done!!! icon_lol.gif
