Has anyone used the powder sugar icing to decorate cookies? if so how does it dry? meaning does it store well when stacked?

Are you talking about Royal icing?

do you mean Royal icing...it is made with powdered sugar or something else?

If you mean Royal icing...I use Antonia74's royal icing here on this site..works really well and you can stack them without worry after they are really dry..about 2 days (to be sure) When you bite into the cookie though, the icing is not rock hard..really good!!

I haven't iced with anything else...

this is the recipe that i found in an old book...

Powdered Sugar Icing
In a small mixing bowl stir together 2 cups sifted powder sugar,1/2 tsp. vanilla and enough milk(about 2 tblsp.) to make of spreading consistency. If you like tint with food coloring.

I made my first ever cookie bouquets for Valentines and I used that recipe for the bottom coat as a glaze. This is also the same frosting we use with the kids whenever they are decorating sugar cookies. I substitute water for the milk as my kids all have dairy allergies, and it still works fine. Anyways, it didn't take that long to dry. I had about 5 dozen cookies and by the time I finished glazing the last of them the first ones were dry enough to add royal icing accents. Once the royal was dry I was able to wrap them individually (I just used plastic wrap) and they did not smear at all nor did they stick to the plastic. I really liked it. I also did some cookies for my son's classmates and bagged them. I stacked them on top of each other and the frosting (glaze) was fine there as well. It does not have much of a taste, but that doesn't matter much if your cookie is tasty. I hope that helps...Jodie

Thanks Jodie..I was making an order of sugar cookies and needing something to help add detail with. Do you think it would work with fondant?
