My husband and I drove about a 1/2 hour away today to a cake and candy supply store so I could look at what they had. What a disappointment! I felt like it was in a time warp stuck in the 1970's! They had all the wilton stuff of course, a whole isle dedicated to plastic stuff to put on your cake, another for tacky wedding stuff and so on. They had only a small section of fondant/gumpaste supplies- and it was all wilton stuff! They didn't have any more than my local Michael's or A.C. Moore! I couldn't believe my eyes! And they had absolutely nothing for gumpaste flowers, no cutters, no veiners, no dusts, Nothing! I won about $200 at basket bingo last week and was looking forward to getting some goodies there! Instead, I had to appologize to my husband for dragging him all the way there for nothing!
Is this normal for cake supply stores? This was the first one I've been to.

I've been in several store like that and it is really disappointing. However, there are three amazing cake supply stores that I go to regularly and all have amazing selections of petal/luster dusts, GP cutters and supplies, cookie cutters, dummies, filling, pans, colors, etc. I think the reason is that the owners are all accomplished cake decorators. Keep searching. All three of the stores I go to are an hour from my house. Well worth the trip though. Good luck.

My cake supply store is two hours from me. Boy, they have just about everything you can think of...they also have a school.

There is only one cake decorating store in my area. She doesn't carry alot of stuff but she is always willing to order what I need.

I didn't know there was a cake decorating store in DE icon_eek.gif Living downstate I just shop at Michaels & AC Moore when I have coupons, and order the rest online (mostly from CC).

I don't have a cake supply store here. Only a restaurant supply store, they usually order stuff for me, but I'm ending up paying a lot more. So I order online, from CC, Ebay, Golda's kitchen... Depends where I can find the items I want, at the lowest price, and don't pay much on shipping, and also I try to not have to pay a lot of duty taxes when ordering from the USA. Sometimes, when buying from CC, even with shipping and duty taxes, I pay less then everyother online store. Great thing to have CC shop!
