I made some of it the other day for the first time. Now what?
I'm not sure how to colour it. Do you just knead the colour in?
Can you eat it once it is dry?
I'd like to make some petit fours...when covering a piece of cake, would it be better to cover the cake with BC and then the MMF? Do you cover the whole thing or just the top and sides?
Sorry, I'm so new to this. I see pictures on here and in books but I really don't know where to start sometimes...
TIA
To color it...2 ways, one is to put it in with the liquids when you melt the marshmallows(only if you need it all one color). Otherwise, yes you do knead it in after it is all made. Not sure on the petit fours, but when covering a cake you should put down a base/and or crumb coat of buttercream/frosting. This will help keep the fondant from slipping off=) Most put the crumb coat and regular coat of frosting, so people who do not like the MMF can peel it off and still have frosting underneath. Hope that helps you out some, and if I missed a question, or didn't explain it well, let us know! Jen
There are two ways to colour MMF. After the marshmellows are melted you can add in the food colouring (the same colouring you use to colour your icing) or you can knead in the colour.
I would put BC icing on the cake first and then put on the MMF.
Yes, You can eat MMF. If you put it on cakes it won't go rock hard that fast, however if you make fondant flowers out of MMF it will go rock hard after a while but if you want it to go hard faster you can put some GumTex and knead it into the MMF.
Hope I helped
Hi there, one thing i wanted to add is that if your making petite fours it would be better for you to cover them in a poured fondant icing, instead of mmf, unless your making something larger like mini cakes, but because petit fours are so small it makes them hard to cover in mmf. Another option is to use the molds Kathy Scott (Sweet Expressions) sells on ebay, you fill them with chocolate and drain out, to leave a shell and then fill with filling and cake and cover with chocolate and they are gorgeous.
