How do you make the mini cakes? What pan do you use? I like working with small things, like cupcakes so I think adding mini cakes could be an option for me.

What size minis? You can get use 3,4,5,6 inch tins. The other altenative is to make a sheet cake and cut the sizes you want with cookie cutters, squares or otherwise.

Wilton has "singles" pans. They are in shapes and about the size of a cupcake. I've seen them on Ebay. You could use one of those as a top layer.
