I was made a cake for a co-worker's bridal shower and everything went horribly wrong. I was so embarassed to take it in to work. It would have been less embarrassing if the bow would have stayed attached to the side, but it kept falling off. I covered the cake with MMF and made the bow with MMf and gum-tex. First, I tried a little water. Lastly, I tried a little BC, but nothing was going to make it stay. What did I do wrong?

Royal icing will hold a bow on the side of a cake . you may have to prop it until it sets a little. I did a fondant bow on the side of a butercream cake and I used toothpicks to sevure it. That would probably work on fondant also.

I think when you are attaching heavier items to fondant you have to use royal icing to attach it hold it with toothpicks til it hardens may be that's what I think hope some one can help you better and this doesn't happen to you again.. icon_sad.gif

Thanks, I'll try that next time! Is there a way to make only a little royal icing? Do I have to make a whole batch?

If you make your bows and such out of gumpaste, they dry much lighter and aren't as difficult to control.

I attach mine with melted chocolate. I find using gumtex or anything else just makes it more difficult to adhere. Try using just fondant and see what happens.
