I have a customer who wants a cake for her Irish mother who is turning 70 and she would like these 2 themes incorporated into a cake. It is supposed to be a large sheet cake to feed 50-60 people.
I am pretty ignorant on Irish culture (all I can think of are shamrocks or the flag) so I need all the help I can get.
Any ideas?

Perhaps a Celtic symbol ... if you google images..."celtic symbol" you will get a bunch! Some of them are quite elaborate ...
One other thing ... if you plan to use green or orange... find out if she's Catholic or Protestant (green=catholic, orange=protestant.... not a good idea to mix them up LOL!)

gold claddagh (and hit w/ gold luster dust if have it)
white writing (suggest royal done on template to get the font) and then hit w/ pearl dust if you have it.
(fyi: design assembled in MS Publisher...no way I could draw the claddagh freehand!)
How about something like "If you're lucky enough to be 70 and IRISH, you're lucky enough!" (yes, I'm Irish 
)
or, if she has a sense of humor, some other popular Irish things are BEER, the Blarney Stone, castles,... looking forward to seeing what you do.
