I have a wedding cake due tomorrow, it's a snowflake theme. I've made all of the snowflakes out of royal icing. The cake is covered in IMBC.
HOW DO I ATTACH THE SNOWFLAKES TO THE CAKE!

I'm FREAKING OUT!

Please help!

LOL....sorry to laugh, but you sound like me. I always panic because I am COMPLETELY self-taught and I have NO IDEA of what I'm doing. Plus, I'm daring to try new stuff that I see on here that LOOKS easy, and then I freak during the process.

I think that you could dab a little of the IMBC on the back of the snowflakes. Are you trying to stand them up? Try using more Royal icing as the "glue".

Do you have any photos yet of the snowflakes so that we can get a visual?

I can't believe I never thought of this before! I just thought I could dab some royal icing on them and away we go, but the more I started to think about it.....
The snowflakes are going to be attached to the sides of a four tier cake. They are very delicate! (sorry no pic's yet) All different shapes and sizes. Not all are filled in with royal icing either, some are just outlines.

Hope this all makes sense!

could you just place them straight on the frosting and have them stick to the IBMC?

I'm worried they might slide off when the IMBC warms to room temp....what do you think?

Hmmm. I have zero experience with IBMC, so I really don't know. Geez I wish that I knew how to help you. I know how you are feeling and I hate that for you. Maybe search snowflake cakes in the galleries and see if you can gleen any inspiration from them. It may be obivous how they did it in the picture.

Try dabbing a little white corn syrup on the back to attach.
IF this doesn't work, another option might be to cover the IMBC with fondant and sail from there.

Wish I could offer more! icon_sad.gif

Have you tried using toothpicks or pieces of spaghetti to attach them to the side of the cake and then put a little bit of royal over the end of the toothpick to cover it up so no one will see it.

You need to try to pm shirleyw. She uses IBMC all the time. I think it might be her fav so see if you can find her on the forums. If you scroll all the way down the page it will tell you all the members that are online. If she's on then you can just click on her name and it will send you right to her profile and you can pm her from there! Good luck!!

I did a small (practice) cake with royal icing snowflakes and attached them with dabs of royal icing. I had covered the cake with rolled buttercream, though. I haven't used IMBC yet--does it stay soft?

Attach minature marshmellows to the back of them then attach the marshmellows to the cake. You can slice the marshmellows as thin as you need them to get the look you want.

They should just stick to the IMBC, but if you are transporting the cake, I would wait until it is in it's place to attach them...otherwise, they may slip off. IMBC is soft and sticky enough that it should hold them as I wouldn't believe your snowflakes would be heavy enough to slide off. There is a photo in my gallery of a duck cake. It is covered in IMBC and the bubbles are just placed on the sides and they held. Good luck!

What a great looking cake - beautiful !! I was going to suggest just wetting the IMBC with a tiny bit of water in the spots you wanted the snowflakes but too slow ! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

i would think that the snowflakes would just stick right to the IMBC, if you add them while the cake is at room temperature. they probably wouldn't stick to the bc if the bc is cold. additionally, if you add the snowflakes directly to the bc and then put the cake in the fridge, they might fall.
