Can anyone explain to me how to do buttercream transfers? I see all kinds of them in the galleries but can't find any directions for how to do it. I love the look of them, are they hard to do? Do they take a long time to make? Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks in advance! Anna31 icon_confused.gif

Click on the article tabs and then look under the How To articles. There is a detailed explanation there. icon_smile.gif

fbct are really easy to do, just a bit time consuming, depending on how big your picture is.
1.find whatever pic you want to do and reverse it, (this is esp. important if you have writing!!!)
2.i tape mine to a cutting board.
3.tape a piece of wax paper over the picture.
4.pick your outline color (mine is usually black)
5.trace the outline ( i like tip #2) and pop it into the freezer to firm up.
6. fill in each individual color (tip #4) and freeze in between colors.
7. i lay a piece of plastic wrap over the whole design and lightly apply pressure with my finger to smooth out the wormy lines formed by the tip.
8. apply a coat of icing to the back, the thicker the piece, the better your chances of it not cracking on you when you go to put it on the cake.

*make sure you do the top colors first, like the eyes, nose, mouth... whatever colors are "on top" of your pic. i hope that makes sense.

once it's done you can wrap the board with plastic wrap and keep it in the freezer until you need it. i don't how that it will keep. mine have been fine after a few days. HTH

Thank you so much for your instructions! One question though. What kind of frosting do you use to outline with? I can just see my buttercream lifting off the wax paper as I am trying to fill in! I have a Dukes of Hazard General lee cake to do next week. I thought it would be fun to try this technique on it. I read the article that Cookiecreations gave me which helped allot! It says to use some kind of fudge frosting? Thanks! Anna31

i use wilton's buttercream recipe, the one in the meringue powder can. icon_smile.gif i add hershey's baking cocoa powder to it to make it brown, then add black coloring to it. the cocoa helps achieve a good black, you don't need as much coloring this way. works great every time!
