Here is a cake I did for my in-laws. It is fondant (Wilton's recipe), fondant roses painted with the luster dusts that are sold here at Cake Central.

Let me tell you that they are WONDERFUL!!! They are nice and dark and really shiny. I didn't have lemon extract or clear alcohol so I used vanilla extract and it worked GREAT!!!

The cake is a butter cake soaked in simple syrup Amaretto and Brandy flavored and filled with pineapple.

Did you start with white flowers or did they have some color? How many coats of luster dust did you have to use? Your cake is beautiful.

The flowers were white when I started, no color. It only took one coat of luster dust. I couldn't believe how deep the color was when I applied it. Only one coat!!!! icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the compliments!

Was your luster dust/extract pretty thick? When I've used it, I usually have to do several coats. Maybe I'm too stingy with the luster dust? What color luster dust did you use?

Yes, the vanilla extract was thick. Not extremely thick but it wasn't thin like some I've used before.

I used the Bronze color one.

I just used a dab of dust and a few drops of extract. I started with about 1/2 tsp because I wasn't sure how much I needed. I repeated the process as I needed it.

But a littlle goes a long way.
