I was just looking through all of the cake stuff that my mom had given to me months ago and the books in there are the Wilton year books from 1979 and 1980 - WOW, talk about some ugly cakes!!! It's not just the colors either. I think the latest thing in '79 were crown candle holders - just use your imagination and yes they are that tacky!!! The prices of things are amazing also - I think a set of 7 wedding cake pans are about $44! And there are all these ugly little plastic things to put on top of cakes - lucky me, many of those were in my box as well.

I know what you mean. A lady at my church knows I'm into cakes and gave me a couple of old boxes of decorating stuff last week. While it's cool to look at, some of it really suprised me. She had a Wilton yearbook from '69 and one from '71 I think. Cracked me up! icon_eek.gif

I have Wilton books going back to '77. I like showing some of these to brides so I can point out, "I don't know what happened at Wilton that year, but they seemed to be pushing 'Year of the Clown' colors!" Pink, purple and orange stripes on a wedding cake? It looks like a circus tent!

But just think what our grandchildren will say when they look back at some of the 2002, 2005, etc books! How loud will THEY laugh? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

My mother used to decorate wedding cakes back in the 70's and I've looked at some of her pictures and it amazes me that people actually liked them. Times are definately different now.
