Hi all. My Mom just bought me the Wilton's dimensions gift pan (see link):
http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=E990A714-802D-F658-0DD754ACE1793618&fid=E990A734-802D-F658-011D66ACD50C981B

It's a beautiful pan! I need ideas for a First Communion decoration for it. I plan on doing a tiered cake and placing this one on top. Would like to add some religious decorations but don't know what? I actually bought candy mold the same shape to make a box which also has the ribbon around it. I plan on filling the candy boxes with miniature chocolate crosses. Any ideas on the cake?

Thanks,
Naty

how's about this:

bake the gift cake pan and place on strong cake board (double?) .... gussy up to look like top of box.

bake sheet cake and tort -- even two and stack...and decorate to match box top cake so it/they look like bottom of box.

then bake yet another cake (or if baked big enough and could use trimmings from sheet cakes).... and make it look like a Bible.

Place on "bottom" of box to look like laying in box (maybe make the Bible a wedge shape -- sort of like a whimsy layer?)

then dowel bottom so can support lid cake leaning on it at an angle.

then add "tissue" from fondant/gumpaste.

oh...and don't forget to luster dust it all up....

the bow, the ribbon, and gold on the Bible "page" edges and the cross on top of the Bible....

can even put name of recipient on Bible cover as if it were a personalized Bible.

WOW!!!!! You are great!!!!!! I would of never thought of that. That is a wonderful idea. OK, you know I got "stupid" questions.....For the bottom of the cake to look like the box, do I scoop out the middle so it looks like the bottom of the box? I was thinking of doing coverfing the bow with star tip, and the rest of the lid with smooth icing. How do smooth part of the lid if the cake is not flat due to the bow? I'm I confusing you? or should I just cover all of it with the star tip?

Thanks again,
Naty

For Doug's idea (which is amazing) I would imagine it needs to be covered in fondant or a crusting buttercream. The bow would be a fondant or gumpaste bow and when it dried you would paint it with luster dust for sparkle. The bible would lay on top of the box/cake and you would make fondant or gumpaste tissue paper to put around it so it would look like it is in the box. I hope that helps some, I'm no pro lol.

ok...back from working at school (yep...Sat. Academy!)

so...crusting BC best as can smooth multiple ways -- for small areas I prefer the hot spatula method..and for small areas I use the one that is very small and comes to a point.

bow in stars could be cute. or just ice regular and smooth -- hint use the basketweave tip to lay down strips of icing and then smooth.

for box bottom yes could cut out middle of cake...
easy way...cut a rectangle out of one sheet cake leaving about a one and half inch border. The border becomes the top edge of the box. the rectangle gets cut down to become the Bible.

OR

just make the double height bottom and make the Bible as a wedge and make it look like it is propped up out of the box by the "tissue"

Thank you Doug. How do I then dowel bottom so can support lid cake? Wouldn't it slide down since its at an angle?

Thanks,
Naty

put both cakes together on even large cake board -- could use foam core or even plywood.

where edge of lid cake sits on board, drive in a few small nails or straight pins, anything that will go into large board and keep slanted cake board from sliding. could even hot melt glue that edge.

the cake on the slanted board shouldn't slide if you do the traditional splotch of BC frosting smeared on the board before putting the cake on it. (big splotch for extra insurance if want to be way on safe side)
